Class of 1982
Louise Weatherby (Cocklereece)

Bluefin Swimmer ‘73-’82 (a long time ago) coached by Lawrence Smith. One of my most memorable accomplishments was winning the 13-14 age group 100-Free (SC) at State in 1978 in Milledgeville, GA. While a Bluefin I worked as a life guard & swim lesson instructor at the Lakeshore Pool. For a short time afterwards I was an assistant coach for the Bluefins, under the direction of Coach Ken Farmer.

After graduating from Carrollton High in ‘82, I earned two academic scholarships to attend West Georgia College (n/k/a The University of West Georgia). During College, I was a Co-Op student with the US Department of Education, Audit Division in Atlanta. I received my Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, Accounting Major on December 7, 1986. After graduating, I was a Staff Accountant in the corporate offices of Oxford Industries in Atlanta (the company makes POLO shirts among other clothing items).

After getting married in August 1987, I moved to the Florida Keys. Once I moved there, one of the first things I did was obtain my SCUBA certification. I worked as an Accountant for the City of Key West and later was the Billing Coordinator for the Monroe County EMS. In March of 1990, post Hugo, my husband and I moved to Charleston, South Carolina where we purchased our first home on James Island and I worked at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in their Accounting Department and later in their Computer department.

On September 14, 1994, Brittany (Britt) Louise Weatherby arrived and I had her in the water the following summer 8 months later. I moved with Britt back to Carrollton the summer of 1997 and in 1998, I joined the Tisinger Vance law firm as their Office Administrator. Britt and I have been in the area enjoying the outdoors, camping, rafting, AND SWIMMING. So far, I’ve participated in two team triathlons (2005) in Carrollton and Destin, FL where I completed the swimming leg of the race (of course J). I’d love to participate in more of these as I can make time in my schedule. Britt joined the Bluefins in January 2006 and like her mom, enjoys the longer course (Freestyle for now)…. But maybe she’ll start liking Backstroke soon ….

I would not trade my swimming experience for anything. My family had fun together and I have made lifelong friends with others on the swim team. It is like FAMILY!
I also had friends from other teams, Michi from Warner Robins, Dana & Patty from Marietta, and many others, that I enjoyed swimming against and seeing at meets.
